Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year!  We welcome the year of the Horse.  Today we learned all about how the children in China get ready for their new year and how they celebrate it.  In China, there are many things that are done to get ready to welcome the new year, like cleaning the house, bringing in fresh flowers, and making new friends.  There are also things that are not done when the new year comes in, like leaving a broom behind the door, or leaving a knife out on the table or counter.  Knives have to be put away in a drawer.  The Chinese also believe that dragons are very important in helping to celebrate the new year.  The dragon helps to protect people from evil spirits. We made our own dragon and he looks great!  Chinese boys and girls are also taught that whatever year they are born in, they take on the traits of the animal that represents that year. This year the animal is the horse.  It is believed that the horse is popular, cheerful, charming, and talented. Wow, it seems like being a horse is a great thing!  Happy new year to everyone!

We Welcome The New Year With Our Special Persons' Assembly.........

Today we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr's wonderful legacy and got to learn about several famous African Americans and what they accomplished.  Our P1 primary class stared our assembly by marching into the song "He's a VIP in our History".  They lead us in our salute to the American flag and the state and city flags and our opening songs.  They then did a fantastic presentation on Nelson Mandela.  Our ELC E2 & E3 classes taught us about Martin Luther King Jr, and all of the wonderful things he dreamed would happen in America. The P2 class told us lots of interesting things that Michael Jackson was able to achieve.  The last presentation of the assembly was from the P3 class and they told us about Oprah Winfrey and her amazing life and the great things she has been able to do. Congratulations to all of our "I Can kids".  They did a super job showing us what they have been able to accomplish in class. Great job! We had lots of parents, family, and friends join us for this fun and informative assembly.  We would like to thank them for their support and extend an invitation to all family and friends who would like to come out and be our special visitors during assemblies.  The children work very hard to make the assemblies special and we would love to have you come and share this time with us.
                                                                      Thank you!

Great job reading for your "I Can - Mac & Tab"!
