Today the Ted DiRenzo Montessori School welcomed Veteran Phil Atwood to their annual Veteran’s Day Assembly. The students had a special program planned in which they sang songs dedicated to our veterans and they got to speak to and interact with their special veteran guest, Mr. Phil Atwood. Mr. Atwood, currently the chaplain at the VFW Post 928, served as the former Post Commander and was enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He graciously took time to tell the students about some of his experiences aboard an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific. He interacted with the children by involving them actively in his presentation, teaching them how to correctly salute, and answering many questions. The children had an enjoyable time learning about the valuable service of our men and women in the armed forces, and they excitedly presented him with a card that was made and signed by the students. This special time closed with the children singing the song “God Bless the U.S.A” by Lee Greenwood. We at the Ted DiRenzo Montessori School would like to thank the men and women that have and continue to serve in our United States Armed Forces. We salute you!
